I will not argue that the way blacks were treated 30, 40, 50 years ago was fair; it was unjust, unfair, and outrageous. I supported the civil rights movement in the '50s and part of the '60s.

And then they decided that, because they had been discriminated against on the basis of race, they had the right to do the same to others. That's when I got off their bus.

Racial discrimination is racial discrimination. Period. It is wrong no matter who does it to who or why. It should be illegal. And that was the goal of the original civil rights movement- -making any racial discrimination illegal.

<<For years I had no problem with affirmative action to help black people overcome generations of such treatment.>>

Where I live there was never any segregation or racist thinking until recently. Drugs, gangs and crime have muddied the waters.

I remember going to Rambi's home town in the 60s and wondering what the fuss was. A resturant not wanting some people's business and why would they want to go there anyway. Feds involved? Simple thinking of a simple child.

Cobalt,
You seem to still be in good standing on LWP. How CAN those people apparently actualy believe that only their politicians ever come unde attack?

Message 15135757

I don't get it. They themselves roll up the artillery to blow H**L out of any conservative politician who sticks his head up, then when their heroes come under attack they act like it is totally unfair.

I don't believe most of us act that way. Do we? I do expect Bush and Ashcroft and whoever to get a royal beating from the Dems. I'm sure they expect it too.

So how is it those clowns think they should be completely exempt?

We must be of a similar age(you poor thing...grin). I grew up in central Florida. We had separate but "equal" schools up until my first year of high school. They "broke us in" by sending 3 or 4 black kids to the junior high before the full integration began.

I have often thought back about how much courage it took for those few black kids to pave the way for the big changes ahead. They were people of character and it would have taken a real asshole not to get along with them. I have not had any contact with any of those folks in 30 years, but I hope they went far in life.
