flats, I really don't understand the problem here. California has a high demand for power. In fact, its supply of power is less than its demand for power. Why shouldn't they pay the market price for the power they import? If the problem were not on the demand side, then the dastardly deeds of the evil power traders would not have worked.

This is how I see it. CA has plenty of power available to them to meet their needs now (produced in
state and out of state.) As FERC noted this is a problem with flawed market structure. These market conditions have allowed players to manipulate the supply to their advantage as we have seen. There is little other explanation for some of the shennanigans in those three articles I posted earlier.

The market structure is inherently flawed because power generation and transmission are regional issues related to the 3 grids, East, West and ERCOT (Texas) which include smaller groupings or power pools.

IMHO state by state "dereg" is impossible. It's a flawed idea from the get go. We're seeing the evidence of that right now.

See figure #8.

California foisted its rummy dot-com businesses on us at inflated prices. Now is the time that we ( the boring, old-economy remainder of the country) make them pay up for dull stuff like corn, meat, and power. -g-

I won't even address all the bad things I'd like to see happen to CA. (CA posters, please do not take this personally.) <ggg>
