Barbecue joints were one of the few places that whites and blacks rubbed elbows in the Deep South. My grandmother took me to a pig roast in Alabama once - we were the only white people there - best barbecue I ever had in my life.

I wanted to help a black business get going. Ribs were ok but I can match them. It wasn't the business owners but the patrons that caused me to quit. If I was a black guy wanting to help a black business I sure wouldn't be taunting whitey for buying there.
