Re : pricing of doughnuts (KREM & the rest of the world) -- my observation is :

Everyone charges ridiculously high prices for doughnuts, but only a few places manage to sell enough of them for it to matter.

I agree with CC -- there is a local "mom & pop" type doughnut place where I live, and their prices are not particularly low.

But, they do not sell zillions of doughnuts.

The thing that amazes me about places like McDonalds & Krispy Kreme is how they sell SO much stuff.
