I don't think the thread is entirely serious, has it's lighter moments and I like that I haven't posted my views on religion due to past problems nor have I entered into debates involving god or religion because of those problems, although they are history now as a child, I was raised strict catholic in an ethnic church. my family was very involved in the church. more than the religious aspects was the community life offered there, the sharing of a people in a foreign land, making it their home, helping each other, settling into a new life. masses were in Hungarian and Latin [enough to bore even a saint]. the church was beautifully done in stained glass, gilding, candles, flowers and statues. brilliant colors, sights and smells. music from above like angels singing. day masses, when the sun shone, the most incredible colors would gleam through those windows of stained glass, brilliant colored lights dancing over everything. I would try and catch the colors on my hands. evening masses, the church was dark and mysterious, yet warm, comforting, with candle light flickering on the gold leaf, off the statues, while priests chanted the stations of the cross and incense wafted in the air. between catechism, mass, holy days, saints days, festivals and celebrations, at times it felt like we lived at that church. but I don't think god was there I don't know if there is a god, but I do know if there is, he wasn't involved in writing the bible. it is a man made book, written by various men, in various tongues, in various times, through as Marsh pointed out, questionable interpretations, trying to impose or explain what they thought god was and what they thought he wanted of us. no all knowing or all powerful force would have allowed his name to be associated with that violent, ill written, parable filled, confusing, unclear, piece of nonsense they say is god's word. know what I think? [or do you care?] I think there is the 'inexplicable spark of life' scientists can put all the elements/components of a cell together, in a petri dish, a tube, anything inert and it is simply glob of nothing so people look for the 'spark of life' some in a petri dish some to god some don't look at all [oh, btw, yes, it was a very interesting explanation]
