I have come to the point where I cringe when someone at a meating or conference says "lets keep this high level" aka, "lets not be bothered with facts or details, or have to do something not expedient." I've found that it means someone either has not spent the time to prepare, does not have the background needed, or does not have the mental capacity to understand the issues, or a combination of the above. I can talk high level stuff fine - such as wanting to have physician order entry, but to do that you need to find a balance between the level of detail & complexity that a nurse, physician & pharmacist can agree on, find a way two or more systems can agree on the data interchange... You can talk about a paperless patient record, but who will verify what, when, looking at what, and not risk violating regulatory mandates, prevailing standards of care or creating tort liability exposures in the process. I've seen countless major healthcare information systems initiatives waste millions of $$s because the organization did not verify the claims, do a feasibility review, put performance clauses in contracts & define acceptance criteria, clear scope of the contract, both parties roles & responsibilities......... What's the phrase - the devil is in the details? May be something to do with us "detail sweaters" outperforming the market. just maybe. Rick, Peter, Miljenko & group - care to offer a 2 year performance challenge to the legendary hedge fund guru? (kidding, I realize it would not be worth your time & pride ultimately does not hold a lot of enduring value) Scott
