Mq,

That may be so. We may blow right through each successive generation and be frustrated with lack of functionality all along the way.

Just as soon as the next generation PC appeared, soon thereafter software appeared to utilize that additional speed and render your new PC obsolete - that is what I'm betting on.

<We will unplug our eyes and stretch them to every corner of the world and beyond.>

lol

You shoulda became a science fiction writer, Mq. You've got the creative mind and imagination for it. How you found yourself one day marketing hydrocarbons is beyond me. Your career counselor should be flogged.

Telepresence

Ulimately I see that a very high wireless bandwidth can give us telepresence. A virtual reality experience. Some examples come to mind:

Virtual massage - Many people in developed countries would be willing to pay $10-20/hr for a virtual backrub (or for other Clintonian pleasures. Talk about "job creation"). The massager will massage a Human dummy or a virtual image of a human being. The signals will be transduced, transmitted over the internet, and then delivered with a human-like hand to the receiver. Feedback can be built into the later generation of the service.

Virtual Doctor: Physicians can examine their patients remotely. That would be video-conferencing. Next step is to actually conduct a surgery or operative procedure remotely.

Vitual Band: Multiple musicians in different geographical locations play together live in a band. They are all connected through high-bandwidth connections with low latencies.

Virtual Farmer: A virtual farmer controls one or more combines or other agricultural equipment sitting in his corner office. The combine wirelessly provides realtime images and key data as soil moisture, fertilizer flow rate in real time.

Virtual Mowing: Mow your lawn sitting in the Airport. Start your mower and see the oncoming obstacles as you guide it through your yard.

Virtual Pilot - Combine this with a video game. Kids fly a toy-plane and follow its movement on a video console. The plane provides real-time data of key aviation data.

Virtual machine operator - Similar to virtual farmer.

Virtual Janitor: A vacuum cleaner is operated remotely over the internet. The janitor is sitting in another time-zone.

Maurice: You must have some more.
