There is not much I object to in that post, except the fundamental disagreement itself. I can see why you think that the incentive to increase use will be killed under the regimen you propose, and, as I said, there is a degree of sheer speculation in an argument of this sort. Maybe you are right.

I am, I suppose, an innocent, since I am unaware of the kind of pervasive use you describe. In college, a bit over twenty years ago, there were a handful of guys who liked to use cocaine, and another group that favored barbiturates. Marijuana use was greater, but by no means pervasive. Very occasionally I knew someone to drop some acid. The really prevalent drugs were alcohol and nicotine. Nowadays, I do not move in particularly fast circles, to be sure, but it has been at least 20 years since anyone offered me a toke on a joint at a party, and I never was with people where anything harder was suggested or talked about, except as youthful misadventure. So maybe we just have different experiences of the matter.

Anyway, I hope that you had a pleasant weekend. I certainly did........
