Alcatel breaks the $1 billion revenue threshold for its Litespan offering
in the US for the year 2000
Alcatel consolidates its leadership position as the number one integrated
voice and data local access platform for ubiquitous deployment of high-speed
DSL services
this does not include Alcatel 7300 and 7350
ASAM

Paris, France, January 8, 2001 - Nearly doubling its year-to-year revenue for Litespan, the
world's most widely deployed Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier, to more than $1 billion for
the year 2000, Alcatel today announced that it has grown its North American embedded base
capacity to serve more than 45 million subscribers. This rapidly growing footprint enables all
telecom operators to provide a full suite of quality voice services with high-speed DSL to all
of its subscribers irrespective of their distance from the telephone Central Office.

"As the need for greater capacity and bandwidth continues to grow, a carrier's ability to
transform standard voice networks into integrated voice-data networks seamlessly will be
critical to success," said Barry Moon, Senior Analyst at RHK, Inc. "Products which combine
these functions in a seamless manner will help carriers deploy these advanced networks in
the 'last mile'."

According to Paul Segre, VP and General Manager of Alcatel's Wireline Access Division,
"Our customers have continued to place confidence in the Alcatel Litespan platform. We take
very seriously the responsibility to help our customers transition from the circuit-switched,
voice only network to an integrated voice and data packet network. We look forward to
aggressively continuing this local loop transformation with all of our customers in 2001 and
beyond."

platform to existing and future networks. Litespan is used for all kind of access lines, POTS,
