I'll call that a senior moment.....<g> >>In some ways you are a strange beast. People mostly do not change political viewpoints once they are adults. << I was in college and graduate school in the mid to late 60's through the mid 70's after I got out of the Army... after having returned from the far East, I was horrified by the civil unrest and upheaval going on at the time in this country... it was truly a culture shock to return to the states after being overseas for so long... to see the burning buildings and the violence in the streets here was incomprehensible to me, it was truly a shock and took a long time to work through... when I enlisted in 1962, this country was a Camelot... when I returned to go to college, the campuses were being overrun and turned upside down by war protesters... they were just hooligans and delinquents to me... I was there for an education... I served my country honorably and I went to school on the GI bill... a lot was going on inside of me at that time... I lost so many of my dearest friends fighting somewhere else, only to be confronted then each day at home with assaulting, angry, shouting, and ungrateful students who were 'too busy' and too spoiled by their parents to meet their country's call to duty... before I enlisted, I was impressed with JFK, as many my age at the time was, and I had hopes that Johnson would pick up the banner... he tried to form the Great Society and maybe I was also naive at the time as well... I gave the Democrats my vote for many years hoping that a Great Society can emerge... well, it never did..... So, now I fast forward to today... I stop and take a look around me, and I see that despite all the well meaning intentions of all those great social programs, all we really have is a train running out of control with inordinate waste and with crime taking over the streets, and so on... the Great Society is a failed experiment and the plug needs to be pulled... so, I reassesed my political views and here I am.....<g> I could go on, sorry for rambling.....<g> GZ
