The companies I included in the list derive a large % of their revenues from EIP related areas. I would like to add more companies to the list but I don't want to add companies with many other lines of business. For example IBM & Oracle are definitely involved in EIP building and have product offerings but that involves only a small % of their revenues so they're not on the list. ERP companies such as SAP & PSFT are developing products as well but these are interface that require tech from 3rd parties to build a complete portal. So they're not on the list either. Of the CRM companies I have only included ONYX because they have focused on selling their product as a portal (they also include basic BI). These are the technologies you need to build an industrial strength EIP and the companies that have them: Basic Portal: HUMC, VRTY, VIAD, SQSW, PLUM Search Engines: VRTY, HUMC, OTEX, AUTN BI Tools: CGNS, BOBJ, BRIO, HUMC, SGNT Document Management & Workflow: FILE, DCTM, HUMC, OTEX Part of the "Basic portal" is the ability to access data from many different structured sources such as the various RDBMS, and ERP & CRM software, and mainframe or other propriatary databases. Different vendors offer different options. Many require 3rd party tools to access some sources. There are many cross licensing agreements between the companies in the portfolio. For example some Portal companies and DM companies license VRTY tools. BI vendors license VIAD or PLUM for resale. BI vendors often integrate with the other Portal products as well. I believe that Hummingbird has the most complete industrial strength EIP offer built with in house technology. They don't have to pay license fees to resell someone else products. HUMC held up very well in 2000 compared to the other stocks in this portfolio and the NASDAQ. I also believe that COGN, BOBJ, VRTY, AUTN and OTEX are all possible aquisitors of VIAD or SQSW. BRIO and SGNT could also be acquired by any of these companies to build a more complete EIP system.
