I go to the flea market at the old Alameda Naval Air Station- it is HUGE- probably one of the best markets in the country. I collect wall pockets and chalkware in the shape of fruit which I have up in my kitchen- as well as Vernon Kilns blue and white "State Road Map" and souvenir plates- have you ever seen those? I love them.

I specialize, though, in Scandinavian silver.

When you said your daughter loved kitsch I could relate. I love the old McCoy smiley face stuff. I have the mugs, and the cookie jar, and the bank- and I found this cool soap company called Primal Elements that even makes smiley face soap-with a lovely citrus smell. I also love their pink lemonade soap, and several others. I bought a TON when Ashford.com had a sale on it.

The Alameda flea market has a lot of plastic jewelry- but there aren't a lot of ignorant dealers so it's a pretty pricey place. It's once every month on the first Sunday- there are other flea markets around, but this was is the king now.
