At a minimum the leap investor should loudly remind himself that he's assuming the cyclic trend repeats. This assumption is seldom mentioned explicitly here.

Jerome, I am with you. When an opportunity to make a nice return comes along - like the one you have outlined - take it. You can always outperform the market with such plays. I have sold covered calls all the way out. But way out of the money. I figure I will have several chances to buy them in cheap between now and then.
