Rick, aren't you getting a bit defensive here? My post to you wasn't a flame.

"Why should I comment on a comment that is irrelevant to my post?"

Because that comment IS your post. #6979

"Most of the components in ^BTK are "operational", and therefore differ from the vast majority of companies in the "biotech sector"."

Then and now you give me an impression that I should be finding companies like MRK, PFE, LLY, JNJ in the ^BTK. These are the operational companies that are not representative of the "biotech sector".

When I tracked down the components of ^BTK, I found: ATIS, AMGN, BTGC, BGEN, CEPH, CHIR, CORR, GENZ, GILD, IMNR, IMNX, MEDI, ORG, and PDLI. How are most of these "operational" (as the pharmaceuticals are)? I think the spectrum of companies here from AMGN to ATIS is very representative of a broad research "biotech" sector.

My prior posting was simply asking you to clarify your original thought that " ^BTK is ... an average of mostly OPERATIONAL companies, not research boutiques. These companies produce DRUGS, and are therefore relatively recession-strong. The index does NOT represent the biotech sector as a whole" It still looks like you were talking about ^DRG, not ^BTK.

"Teach him what ^BTK is," you'd said to Bill G. Well, you've yet to teach me anything about the ^BTK. If you prefer not to discuss this further, that is all right with me.
