"as an investment vehicle, the convert is also interesting"

Since 1 share of class B convertible can be traded in for 1 share of class A common, it's virtually identical to the class A. The only advantage to issuing it at all is it's asset and EPS spin value. It makes for a dirty balance sheet in a company that already uses too many tricks to pad the numbers. For a quick acid test, check how many shares the CFO owns in the company.
