THe use of cellphones has reached a level of total absurdity. Yesterday in the produce section, there was a man talking to the lettuce, which scared me til I looked a little closer and saw that he was on his phone. He was asking someone, presumably his wife,if she wanted the big bag or the little bag of salad mix.

C'mon! I wanted to shout. What are you! A man or a mouse! Take charge of that decision. You can do it! What will she do to you if you bring home the wrong size? TEll her to go to the store herself if she cares!

I gave up as he was reading the weights of the bags to her.

In the airport, everyone is on the phone. The other day, waiting for a flight, I pulled mine out and called Dan's secretary. She said, "Aren't you at the airport? Are you ok?"

"I'm fine," I whispered. "I just felt really strange. I was the only one not on a phone."
Then I said loudly, "Sell it! Try to get 50 for it but get rid of it and buy more 'soft!"

"Are you crazy," says Carol, the all-around secretary, who knows more about our lives than we do. "You don't want more Microsoft."
