Since there is a cultural bias against
this behavior, making the accusation is similar to what is done in times of war...dehumanize the enemy, but perhaps
in a lesser degree. Maybe we can call it "minimizing the enemy" in the case of our recent political situations. It is
behavior that I see as very common from both the left and the right.


Interesting points Jorjie. I can't disagree.

This reminds me of an incident that happened in my life about eighteen years ago: I'd just adopted my daughter from Korea. She was 4 months old. A good friend of mine called and asked "So, how's the gook?" I felt like the breath had been knocked out of me. Our having grown up in the time of the Viet Nam war had left its impressions about Asians on even those of us who were too young to fight.

It was also the end of our friendship.
