Hi chooseanother,

First, I did call GZ's time in the Armed Forces during the Viet Nam War a "BFD". I admit to that and it wasn't nice.

However, I agree completely with you on the following:

I do have a problem with military service being used as a reason that
someone has more say or understanding about something. Surely there are some things that others can not
understand fully

You've communicated my feelings perfectly. I'm extremely tired of bowing down to those who served in military service as though they have a unique perspective on evil, on the horrible things people do to each other. There are many, many ways in which evil shows its face, and many people who fight it anonymously and without medals for their battles.

As far as I'm concerned (and to paraphrase a friend), those who have fought in the Armed Forces, and who have not been able to understand this fact, missed the point of their "service".
