Hi QwikSand - Steve does point out some significant changes that are taking place in the industry. I believe he is looking at SUNW's products and performance based on last year's technology and perhaps needs to look forward to many of the new integrated technologies SUNW plans to introduce this year and in 2002.

At this year's CES show, SUNW was showing many of the JAVA and JINI based network appliance application "ideas". IMO, SUNW is integrating their system(s) and services in a vertical approach across several major industry sectors.

What keeps SUNW's stock price at a premium is that by providing the complete system and services they can obtain higher overall margins than any Wintel or system integrator (Intel based) system.

However, eventually the cost/performance will favor the Wintel system over any current SUNW system/service. This is why it is crucial that SUNW continue to announce new and innovative products that take advantage of all these new emerging technologies.

What SUNW can provide is a consistent upgrade path to their users. If not, IBM, HWP and EMC will. Once a customer switches they are very difficult to get back.
