It's an interesting idea. As for the SSRI indicator... In humans, mania is usually followed by depression. Witness Japan.

Can a mania be artificially prolonged by the widespread use of confidence building, anti-anxiety drugs? We'll never know. The research that suggest that people would be better off without high serotonin levels will never be done.

Per the drug companies, there is no such thing as not enough serotonin. One can have high or low blood pressure, high or low thyroid levels, etc... but more serotonin is always better, and all antidepressant research sponsored by drug companies has that premise as an assumption.
