The market did receive help from comments out of MSDW that the firm expects a full-blown recession in the first half of the year, as well as from Bush economic advisor Larry Lindsey, who noted this weekend that "the economy is deteriorating rather quickly". Such concern not surprisingly played right into the curve steepening bias, as did another decent showing on the energy front, with more and more talk of a 1.5 mln bpd cut in production from OPEC. Equity weakness eventually managed to push the front end into positive territory, while the rest of the curve lagged behind.
