Those who survive usually require surgery which often involves amputating
a leg, both legs or an arm. In Angola it is estimated that there are
70,000 landmine amputees (nearly 1 per cent of the population) and a
further ten million unexploded landmines, one for every inhabitant. In
Cambodia, mine injuries have left over 30,000 amputees in a country with
a population of eight million.
