Man Urinating Near Runway Killed

LUANDA (Reuters) - A man who had stopped to relieve himself close to a
runway was killed when a cargo plane crashed during take-off in Angola's diamond-rich Lunda North province,
the country's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says.

All seven people on board the plane registered to Gemini Air Cargo escaped unhurt, CAA chief Helder Preza
told Reuters on Monday.

Preza said the plane developed engine problems on take off from near the town of Dundo Friday and crashed
as it attempted to re-land.

It was the third plane crash in Angola since November.

Nov. 1, 48 people were killed when a Russian-built Antonov plane crashed in flames in northeastern Angola.
Two weeks later, 39 people died when another Antonov plane crashed near the Angolan capital.

Rapist, Inspired by Bible, Cuts Off Penis

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - A convicted Brazilian rapist sliced off his own
penis and flushed it down the toilet, saying the amputation would bring him closer to God.

Prison guards said they found Flavio dos Santos Cruz, 23, screaming and profusely bleeding in his jail cell early
Thursday after he cut off his penis with a shaving razor.

``He's alive. But since the penis was missing, he now will have to urinate through a tube,'' said urologist Aerton
Barbosa Neves, who operated on Santos Cruz in the town of Andradina, about 410 miles from South
America's biggest city of Sao Paulo.

Santos Cruz said he was inspired by the Bible.

``It is written in Bible that if a part of your body distances you from God, and makes you commit a sin, you
should cut it off,'' he told local news wire Agencia Estado.

Since Santos Cruz did not cut off his testicles, Neves said the rapist could still ejaculate -- possibly while
dreaming -- and even impregnate someone, albeit only with medical assistance.

Prison officials could not immediately say how many people Santos Cruz had raped and did not know the
length of his jail sentence.

Man Bites Python, Escapes Death

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African man bit his way to freedom
after he was attacked by a python that tried to squeeze him to death, a local newspaper reported Wednesday.

The Star newspaper quoted Lucas Sibanda, 57, as saying the snake suddenly appeared from behind some shrubs
while he was walking to work on a remote, narrow path he uses each day.

``I couldn't believe my eyes...I froze for almost 10 seconds, enough to let the snake tangle itself around me,''
Sibanda told the newspaper.

The python then began constricting him.

``I decided the only way to save myself from this monster was to bite it just below the head,'' he said. Sibanda
sank his teeth into the reptile and kicked and punched until it released its grip.

Sibanda killed the snake with a stick, took it to his home near Pretoria and skinned it. The newspaper did not say
when the incident took place.

Pythons, which suffocate their prey before swallowing it whole, have been known to kill and eat antelope species
such as impala but attacks on humans are rare.
