Hi Tenchusatsu,
According to an article last week, they've been in evaluation mode on Sledgehammer for a long time. Long evaluations could be the high-tech way of saying, "call you later"

Regards,
Amy J

Ten - Re:"that's the first time I ever heard of Win64 for x86-64. When did MS publicly commit to such a version?"

Based on his technical "expertise" KalKan concludes that each SludgePumper will have an integrated Transmeta cell that converts ANY OS or application to 64 bit software.

Tenchusatsu,

that's the first time I ever heard of Win64 for x86-64. When did MS publicly commit to such a version?

The only advantage of the "commitment" to Itanium is that when you get stuck in a bathroom that doesn't have a toilet paper, the Itanium commitment paper can really bail you out.

Kap, that's the first time I ever heard of Win64 for x86-64. When did MS publicly commit to such a version? I couldn't find anything on AMD's web site.

I don't know about public. But the Reg reported a few moths ago about MS's unhappiness with the speed of AMD's 64 bit emulators- enter Transmedia.

And I've been messing with MS's new VisualStudio.NET. In the MSDN that comes with it, I found one reference to an "AMD64" bit processor. (search for the word yourself) You'll also notice that IA64 time and again is presented as one of "many" possible 64 bit platforms, with Alpha64 being the other. The AMD64 ref I found I believe was a slip, but clearly some tech writer is thinking about Sledgehammer.

<that's the first time I ever heard of Win64 for x86-64.
... I couldn't find anything on AMD's web site.>

Apparently, people on this board have different
social status.

Some are sitting in their cubicles from 8 to 5, some do
woodworking, and some may be acting time-to-time on
high executive meetings at involved companies, and
even may be doing _some_ relevant work. Unfortunately,
the S.I. profile does not tell the whole story about
participants, so you need some skills to discern as
who is who, and filter the information accordingly.
Unfortunately again, judging by your attitude, it
does not seem possible. Sorry.
