I remember what my folks did for me so now I'm trying to do that and a bit more for my daughter. Also will start shortly on a trust for her to handle some of the "what ifs". A simple will just doesn't cut it with the asset base we have now.

My grandmother set up a trust for my brother and I many,many years ago. That expired a few years ago and I learned about 20 years ago what to do and not do.Believe me there is a lot you shouldn't do!!!

Anyway the hard part is planting those seeds and getting her to realize the value of money and managing it. She wants a laptop computer and we said she should save for it. Got a frown out of that but we told her that we would pay for a third. That got her really interested because she loves to write and she just started baby sitting.

But the thing that got her really motivated is when my dad gave her that stock certificate. I should have thought of that!
