I agree with this as long as peaceful coexistence is obtainable. This is not likely in a case where one of the two is an aggresser, predator, parasite or other hostile entity in relation to the other. It is unwise for a mouse to be tolerant of a rattle snake unless the snake is caged. In this case caging the snake would actually be a reasonable step toward tolerance. Smashing its head would not be considered tolerant but I'd still consider it a reasonable thing to do if the mouse were able.
