I think we are mostly in agreement, then. I think that one cannot be utterly neutral, and, in any case, critical thinking is a higher order activity that high school students are just starting to get, so the teaching of history with a sense of appreciation for what America got right, and sorrow for what it got wrong, seems correct to me, what one might call "mindful patriotism". We should teach respect for the Constitution, even as we acknowledge the blemish of slavery, or the transition towards more democracy over time, for example.

Creationism and Afrocentrism are not part of the "consensual culture", nor are they sanctioned by scholarship. An acknowledgement that the issue of evolution is addressed according to the framework of physical science, which only seeks natural causes, seems to me a good idea when the subject is studied, but that does not mean that Creation Science need be taught. The moral status of gayness is too controversial to be prejudicially presented, and a critical discussion of it would not be age appropriate until high school. I do think that the Ten Commandments, embedded in other hortatory or wisdom literature from other traditions, would be alright to post, as long as it was not exclusionary, but I am not strongly in favor of it.
