Well, as you may have observed in the past, I am not keen on the Confederacy, and have quoted numerous times, on various threads, Jefferson Davis's valedictory address to his Senatorial colleagues, where he acknowledges that the central issues of the secession were race and slavery. Thus we are in agreement, and, as a Northerner/Border stater, I may find it even more exasperating. But I try to be understanding of those who insist on honoring their ancestors. Thus, the reason I asked about a quarrel: if it seemed to represent a bad attitude on Ashcroft's part, something would likely have given. If it were somewhat smoothed over, than Ashcroft may not be too obnoxious on the subject.......
