Extensive 12 page P4 / Itanium article at:
systemlogic.net

Surprisingly positive about P4 (despite the title) but it ridicules Itanium.

As more and more people become “educated” about computer architecture, there is more scrutiny upon a design. In the case of the Pentium 4, I believe this scrutiny is undeserving in some respects, because none of Intel’s last few brand-new architectures have performed well right off the bat. The Pentium 4 is for early adopters, just like the original incarnations of previous designs.

The Itanium, on the other hand, doesn’t appear to “have what it takes” to succeed in their intended market. McKinnely might, with on die L3 cache, and other groovy enhancements, but for now, IA-64 and the Itanium isn’t very strong.
