Hey, I thought Barry Richard was a great lawyer for Bush - talk about turning a sows ear into a silk purse. I don't think Gore's intellect (or Bush's intellect, oxymoronic as that may be) has anything to do with the political acts of conservative SCOTUS justices. Frankly, if Dade had simply completed its recount, the judicial outcome may well have been different, for a variety of reasons.

A lot of flukes, missteps, bad luck and human errors cost Gore a victory that he won at the ballot box - but none was more important or devastating to the outcome than the unprincipled political decision made by the Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore.

C'est la vie -- it has done more to galvanize the democrats and the left than anything Gore or the democrats could have done on their own.
