Hutch Telecom Undecided on H.K. License Bidding, SCMP Says
By Kelvin Chan

Hong Kong, Jan. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Hutchison Telecommunications (H.K.) Ltd. hasn't decided whether to bid for a new mobile phone license in Hong Kong if the government forces the winner to open its network, the South China Morning Post reported, citing the Managing Director Agnes Nardi.

``It is too early to tell whether we will surely bid (for) a license at this stage, but we will have to be fair to our shareholders,'' the paper quoted Nardi as saying.

The government has proposed forcing the winning bidder for new licenses that enable users to conduct commercial and banking transactions via mobile phones to let other operators use up to 30 percent of its network. The new services are also capable of delivering moving video images.

Hutchison Telecom is a unit of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd., Hong Kong's biggest conglomerate.
