"The ILECS have always lost money on consumer dial tone..."

WW and/or elmatador- If you are certain that the ILECs have lost money on consumer dialtone, can you speculate why ATT has invested large sums of capital to build out, from scratch(or I should say, where none existed), local voice loops to 500,000 paying customers? And why all the other major MSOs have rolled out local telephony too?

Could it be that the certainly that you and elmatador feel about a losing local loop business model is the political line put out by the ILECs to protect their entrenched interest and gather favor with the FCC to keep out competition? -MikeM(From Florida)
