Also, 4x would generally be looked upon as a 400% increase, rather than a 300% increase.

Actually, 4x is a 300% increase. The confusion arises because 4x is 400% of the original amount, but if you take away the original 100% it becomes clear that the increase is actually 300%. Here's an example:

Suppose I start with one thing:
$

Then suppose I have 4x as many (400% of the original amount):
$ + $$$ = $$$$

The increase is 3 (or 300% of the original amount):
$$$

You missed the Parott's point completely.
We were talking about Intel's cross over statement.
Intel has said that the cross over will occur before the end of 2001 when the revenues produced by the P4 croos over the revenues produced by the P3. He stated that the cross over was between the P3 and the P4 and did not include the Celeron.

Apparently the Celeron is a P3 without a big cache. However, the point is moot anyway because the P3 is expected to replace the Celeron before the endo 2001 anyway.

Intel has stated that it has more than enough production capacity to produce the chips it needs for this year. This increase in production capacity is made possible by the switch to 300 MM wafers and .13 micron process in its factories. The P4 is quite economical in a .13 process.
The P3 is even more economical. A new factory has the potential output of 3-4 of the old factories.
