hi Lee, I have no experience at all in these matters...but I think that the time for maximum opportunities there has not yet come. I check the prices of higher end cars on ebay every once in a while as a barometer. Anyway, I will wait until more personal bankruptcies occur before looking for any real estate buys. Good luck to you too, let me know if you find a good source of info for this area

OTOT: You can find the liens @ the town clerks office in the property records. I'm sure the staff can help you determine the liens.

Normally the bank forcloses and takes title and its only the property tax liens which stay in force but you may want to question Truff on this. I believe she has some legal experience in the area.

Lee...go to the County Courthouse. All information should be available to the public on fiche or computer. then..1st go to Treasurers office with the address of the property, ask them for the Tax ID #, this will identify the property in their computer and will list taxes due and the owners name.
2nd....with ID# and owners name go to the Clerk and Recorders office there. from this you can look up "Grantor/Grantee" for cross reference. check out the micro fiche/computer and look up the owner...(John Doe as both Grantor and Grantee). if fiche..Grantors fiche will be in one 'box' and Grantee in another. these will list all legal transactions regarding the person and property..ie. mortgages, bill of sale,mechanics liens, etc.
DO NOT be afraid to ask for help...that is what these people are paid to do and most are usually quite helpful.

Lee,

I see that you already have had a few responses to your inquiry regarding title checks on property, but since I have a wee bit of experience in the area (I'm an attorney in Boise), I am gonna reply as well.

To check the title on a piece of property in Ada County, you should go to the City/County building in Boise (on Idaho St.). The two ladies in the office are fairly helpful and can walk you through the process. As you run your search, you should watch out for chain of title issues - try to make sure that the Seller to Buyer string has no gaps in it - on a rare occasion there can be alternate chains of title running, depending upon how the transaction was recorded. If you decided not to do the search yourself, First American Title in Boise is good, and will do a basic title search for $200-400. If you want them to do a search in anticipation of litigation, it runs in the $1000 range, depending on the details of the search.

You should also check as to your remedies (if any) should the title to the property be clouded.
