Good Morning Poet,

First of all, I want to thank you for posting to me, I think we can now enjoy a good and cordial discussion of the issues...<g> Of course, in every sense of the word in all you posted, all of us are people and we're more complex than a simple post... I'm not a soldier, I served, that's all...<g> my father-in-law served in the U.S. Marines for 27 years, and my wife is a Marine brat...<g> (a Marine brat means she is the daughter of a career service Marine)... and without a strong military, all our poets would be writing in German right now....<g>

Most definitely, I think poets, artists of all kinds, are the voice and expression of a culture... I've studied classical piano for many years and I write... I've even written a fictional novel now in the hands of a New York literary agent and waiting for a publisher... I think artistic expression is the single faculty that makes us human and separates us from the rest of the animal world... my dog can never read T.S. Elliot or appreciate a Mozart violin concerto..... I think anyone who deprives themselves of exposure to artistic expression is depriving themselves of one of the greatest gifts we have... you're absolutely right, but it must be genuine artistic expression... genuine artistic expression is the bloom of a successful culture and a flourishing society.....
