"gap downs" - more likely to be filled in a bull market.
"gap ups" - more likely to be filled in a bear market.

I follow gaps only as they relate to chart patterns, and the rule of thumb is this: if a gap occurs within a pattern or trading range, it usually fills within a few days. If it occurs on a breakout, it does not have to fill until the trend changes, if ever.
