>>"we roll with the punches. . ."<<

Sound to me you were flowing with the short-term trendline. Anyone following the 1-min. charts could see the change in trend (1-min. chart only). If you jumped in early with a protective stop loss below the low of the day, you would have rode a nice trend back up. A trailing stop would have stopped you out with a decent profit from the late morning sell-off.

>>"TA shows one way. . .everyone places their bets. . .market quickly moves the other way. . . before you can switch sides. . . How many times did we see that scenario play out in 2000?"<<

It all depended on how you reacted to the TA or chart. If you missed the early train with a low-risk protective stop below the low of the day and tried to chase it by jumping in with the move already a long way from the low of the day, your risk increased dramatically, especially in the face of the OVERALL downtrend still intact.

I know you dislike TAs and found them untrustworthy; but TA or chart reading is really an art form more than perfect science. You have to really let go of your ego and broken clock prediction to really see and FEEL the message the chart is telling you. Unfortunately, not too many people could do that and that why TA or chart-reading are getting all the bad rap when people lose money using it.

It took me years to finally understand and appreciate its beauty and power. That is, when I started to use my right brain more than my left brain. <g>

Btw, IMO, there is no need for your search for the ultimate indicator; it is already right in front of you. It is called the trendline. Don't fight it. Flow with it and you'll appreciate its simple message.

Happy trading!

p.s. I've to say that today is a trader's dream, there are enough consistent short-term (1-min.)trend on both sides (up and down) to make some money off from.

well, my market timing has been "slightly off" this week, but my fave four are performing remarkably well, "mslv, efnt, idti, elnt", all are much higher since last month except efnt, who gave a warning, but will come back imo,
so i guess the lesson is, the market may drive you crazy, but if you pick the right stocks, you can still "survive"
anyhow, kinda impressive the way the market performed with all the bad news out there, yhoo/mot could effect us short term, we will probably get some good news tomorrow and then get slammed <g>
