To be fair, though, John, Dell had already established a history of being less than straightforward with the investment community. That's what made it easy to see through Dell rather early in the game in the past year and a half.

I've always had the impression that Chambers shoots a little straighter. Then again, Chambers hasn't ever had to face a slowdown before, either.

LOL... It's funny that you mentioned that. I went to the Dell SI thread a couple of years ago, in the Spring of 1999, and asked a simple question about Dell's PE and how it would be perceived going forward if growth slowed. I started my post by mentioning that I really liked Dell as a stock and company and was considering buying it. I just wanted some thoughts from the long time holders regarding the high PE relative to future growth. The thread was a huge Dell party at the time, and I was quickly put in my place for even suggesting that Dell had a high PE. Now, the Dell thread looks like the aftermath of a long, overdone big party complete with hangovers and everything. There are a lot of long faces over there these days.

I think the market answered my question when the Dellers dared me to ask it. Sweet.
