Ahhh, but the role of the government is defined in the constitution. And it is clearly not given the right to support the arts.

I think that it is important to remember that when the government spends money, they are spending our money. Yours and mine. And I believe that the taxpayers have a right to say that they don't want their money to be used to support an art exhibit that shows their religious icons in a toilet filled with piss. This isn't about censorship, this is about the fact that the government should be neutral, they shouldn't support it or repress it.

Back in the 1930s in nazi germany, the government sponsored artists and the results were what basically amounted to propaganda. Do you think that there aren't any nazi or white supremacist artist in the U.S. today? Why shouldn't they get the same government grants that other artists do?
