Deutsche Telekom awards network management systems contract to Alcatel Paris, France - January 11, 2001 - Alcatel has been selected by Deutsche Telekom AG to supply network management systems. The contract, which includes the provision of Alcatel 1360 ALMA SMC systems, will allow Deutsche Telekom to improve the management of its switched network. These new implementations will be brought into operation during the first half of 2001. Alcatel 1360 ALMA Switch Management Center (SMC) is a software product for the management of switched networks, including both voice and data services, over the public telecommunications network. The introduction of this network management solution will increase service quality in the network, while at the same time reducing network operations costs. Alcatel 1360 ALMA SMC offers great flexibility in its central management capabilities, and Deutsche Telekom AG will use this solution to monitor and control the Alcatel 1000 switching systems throughout its network. Communication between the network management system and the switching systems as well as the loading of new software releases takes place via high-speed data links. "With Alcatel 1360 ALMA SMC, we have laid the foundation for a comprehensive network management system in our switched network," stated Eckart Auer, Production Manager controlling national networks at Deutsche Telekom AG. "We have selected this Alcatel product in order to optimize the operation of Alcatel's switching systems and therefore to provide a greater quality of service for our customers."
