THDO doesn't need a new board on SI, THDO needs some hit games. I don't see any in the lineup and I haven't read about any hot licensing deals. Have I missed something? Until THDO gets some must have games, it's going to be an also ran.

Welcome to SI Your Honor! I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but sometime last year 3DO was granted a patent related to online gaming. For a fee, a player could purchase a particular power or strength from a character in one game and port it to another online, not unlike trading cards. Trip Hawkins is a co-inventor with one or two other people. The patent was registered in 1996 and granted in late 1999 or 2000.
I could be light years off on this one, however I think that 3DO's patent will play a role in any online video gaming strategy eventually employed by Sony, and Nintendo. Investor relations at 3DO or someone on this thread may be able to direct you to the site where you can read the actual patent.

All the best,

David P. O'Connor
