Yes, but of course! But depending upon the counters' bias, visual acuity, lens correction, laser correction, fatigue, attention span, etc., they might or might not see (or imagine) light showing through, or not.

In other words, it's subjective, subject to human bias and error. Potentially exceeding any machine error they're trying to correct, by a long shot. After the Miami Herald's "hand count," those counting should be deposed, for posterity.
