Good point. However, I will say that CISCO has pretty much standardized the router IP. Therefore they "control" the architecture. WAFL is not quite on the same level as the CISCO IP. No one can make a router without conforming to CISCO's architecture. Not so with NAS.

I believe you to be wrong, Kumar. I am of the belief that virtually all of the world's telco's license Cisco's IOS. In fact, the margins from software are what allow them to sport overall gross margins in excess of 60%.
