i haven't heard the rumor...but let me say this, i've seen Japanese Pd import stats for last year, and Pd imports from Russia were UP from '99. so there WAS no supply disruption really. but look at the Pd demand curve...demand simply exploded in the past five years. it would be easy to corner that market though...and the Russians are handling this superbly (from their PoV). note btw. that the West is powerless...Pd CAN'T be manipulated (except of course by the Russians), all govt. stock piles that could be used for that purpose have been used up. finito. note also, that breaking the magical 1,000 level is psychologically significant...who knows how high it will go.
