America will lose it's superpower status if it mindlessly jettisons the ideals, ideas, and attitudes that make it great.
A superpower is a country who's people are working together innovatively in relative unison. The ideas, ideals, Gods, or marks of beauty are far less important than the attitude that the country is a good place to live, defend, and promote.

The real problem is the attempt to view it purely formally. Obviously, there are distinct attitudes and habits that conduce to social well- being and progress. For example, a strong inclination towards persuasion rather than coercion; a strong bias in favor of appeals to reason rather than passion; and a willingness to put one's opinions to the test in debate, and to revise them if need be, are a constellation of habits that all would be well- advised to cultivate. It would be silly to make them just another set of values in a kaliedescope of diversity. The reason the the West is worth defending is that it is not distinguished by racism or brutality, those are common to mankind, it is distinguished by rational jurisprudence, constitutional government, the scientific method, and other things which did not develop commonly among mankind.........
