Thanks Dan3, my applications are as you suggest. A little MS Office, alot of net surfing, some Quaking and hopefully a bit of video editing. I've got the DV camera and an active toddler, now I need the PC to handle it. I'm gonna wait till DVD-RAM become readily available, hopefully less than 6 months.

Dan, >The fastest chip for productivity applications like Office, Excel, Pagemaker, or Powerpoint is the DDR Athlon.

Since you put it that way, I have to say, boy, do you really need a super computer to run Office or any of the other apps above?

The fastest chip for Quake 3 and soon to be available video compression software is the P4.

The P4 exceeds at apps that actually benefit from very high clock speeds. Thanks for the plug!

Re: Which is a faster processor, the P4 or the G4?

It usually depends on the benchmark being used. I watched Steve Jobs keynote spiel at MacWorld on Tuesday. He ran a graphics benchmark using a 733MHz G4 against a Pentium 4 and the P4 took 12 seconds longer to complete it (24 sec. vs 36 sec). What that really means is anybody's guess..
