FONAR Expands Domestic Sales Force Launches National Sales and Marketing Campaign for 2001 MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BW HealthWire)--Jan. 11, 2001--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The Patient-Friendly(TM) MRI Company, announced today that it has dramatically expanded its domestic sales force, now covering every region of the United States. Last week, FONAR's sales management team conducted a weeklong seminar at headquarters, launching its 2001 sales effort and providing the newly reinforced sales force with extensive in-depth training on the Company's complete line of products, the FONAR Seven, the most extensive in the industry. Dr. Damadian, president and chairman of FONAR, said, ``Over the past few years, we've invested heavily in research and development. Now that we have rounded out and fine-tuned our product line, our unique products, the Stand-Up MRI(TM) and Open Sky MRI(TM) are market ready for a full-scale sales offensive in the MRI marketplace. FONAR had sold principally through distributors while its products were under development.'' Dr. Damadian continued, ``FONAR's new direct sales force is now 12 strong across America. We are continuing to recruit and expect our sales team to be at its full strength of 20 salespersons shortly. FONAR commenced its new sales initiative January 3-5, 2001, when the new sales team and their regional managers came from across the country to the Company's Melville headquarters to launch the first meeting of its nationwide sales force. Our newly hired salesmen average ten years of experience in capital equipment: They're very excited about the FONAR Seven; they're trained; and they're eager to start selling. We are very optimistic about 2001.'' Included in the FONAR Seven is a Stand-Up MRI(TM), an MRI that scans patients in upright, weight-bearing positions. Its special patient positioning system also allows patients to be scanned in a variety of other positions, including all the conventional, horizontal positions, making it the only scanner on the market that can perform positional MRI, or pMRI. On August 2, 2000, General Electric Medical Systems and FONAR announced an agreement whereby General Electric will sell and distribute FONAR's Stand-Up MRI(TM). The Company's other products are The Echo(TM), a compact MRI designed to sell at a lower price; the QUAD(TM) 12000, the Company's premiere 0.6 Tesla Open MRI; and the FONAR-360, available in its ``open sky'' configuration for diagnostic purposes and, in the future, in its ``interventional 360'' configuration for MRI-guided interventions. Its works-in-progress scanners include the Pinnacle(TM), a high-field Open MRI with superconducting magnet technology; and the mpExtremity MRI(TM), a small, in-office MRI that scans extremities, i.e. hands, wrists, elbows, knees, feet and ankles, in multiple positions (mp), including weight-bearing positions.
