remarkably peaceful time for those open to the idea.

In the 70s Central Texas was the land of Willy Nelson. Hippies toked side by side with rednecks and their Falstaf beers. The sherrif kept activities PG rated in family areas and stayed out of adult areas so long as there was no violence (which was rare because all law enforcement was pretty much directed to eliminate it). Vietnam and Nixon protests were more street theater than centers of anger in the community. The religous stuck to their churches and PG enforced areas and recruited by example and not law. The 80s were a let down, big time!
