Paul and Tenchusatu, thanks for the replies. One interesting thing that I've noticed having used a Dell Optiplex P3 500Mhz machine at work is that it really doesnt seem to run any faster than this old Gateway P1(Windows 95) I've got at home. The Dell does have NT on it, whether that slows things down or not, I don't know. Thats why I've been hesitant to get a new puter, no real performance improvement. When I went from the 486-33 to the P1 166, there was a dramatic speed improvement, I haven't seen evidence of that being the case now. For surfing, trading and some home business stuff, the old P1 is still plugging along fine. Maybe thats the real problem behind the PC slowdown. The new generation stuff, just isn't as dramatic an improvement over the P3 or P2 or even the P1. We need a dramatically improved OS that obsoletes everything less than a P4, that'll perk up the chip and PC sectors.
