What if the photographer were documenting the starvation of children. What if his photographs were shown around the world? What if seeing those photographs moved a few people enough to cause them to volunteer for organizations dedicated to child welfare? Or inspired them to pursue education in medicine? Or to adopt one of these children?

The situation is extremely complex and interconnected. Seeing it as black and white does not serve the whole of the situation very well, IMO.
